I haven’t been in school in more years than I care to count, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still learning. New ways to use my computer, how to cook new things (a tomatillo? what’s that?), the ins and outs of the school library’s automated catalog (which may very well be the thing that pushes me over the edge….); it seems like every day there’s something new to learn.
I guess I take after my dad, who’s still learning new stuff at the age of 87: using his computer, figuring out Facebook (spent 2 hours with him on that today…), learning more about the Bible and God and His ways (Dad got saved in October 2010, at the age of 86!) He’s never been afraid to learn something new and he’s always pushed me to do the same. I’m told that mental challenges keep our brains healthy. That’s a good thing, right?
New challenges I want to tackle: making lampwork glass beads, making stuff out of precious metal clay (which, like alchemy, changes from clay to solid metal in the kiln), how to speak Spanish… I’m not going to live long enough to learn all the stuff I’d like to know about! How about you? What challenge are you eying? What’s keeping you back? Go for it – life is brief, don’t waste it!
